Meet Dr. Wilke

How did you get started in plastic surgery?

“It was really an evolution. I grew up wanting to be a doctor, but living in a small town in WI there was no exposure to specialties. A doctor in a small town means family medicine. In med school you get exposed to different aspects, and that is when I discovered surgery really fit my personality. After my residency I was exposed to more specialized types of surgeries including plastic which really intrigued me. Plastic Surgery has a more positive aspect to it.  Many types of surgeries involve doing things that people may need, but often don’t want.  Our specialty is more about restoring things back to normal, and improving their condition.  We get to make people happy with the surgeries that we do, and I really feel privileged to be able to do that.”

How long have you been with Edina Plastic Surgery?

“I’ve been with Edina for 21 years in cosmetic surgery and it has really evolved over that time.”

Where did you attend medical school and do your residency?

“I went to Medical School at the University of Wisconsin, then trained at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics for 7 years, doing residencies in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery.

Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?

“I enjoy spending time with family. My kids are in college, but through the years I’ve coached their sports teams and been pretty involved. We have a cabin on Prior Lake where we spend time and go boating.”

What is something people may not know about you?

“I race cars. I am a part of the Sports Car Club of America which is an amateur sport car racing club that has been around since the 1950’s. There are different categories and big tracks all over the country. I’ve dabbled in it for over 20 years. And now that my kids are older I have more time to put into it. I even have my own race car.”

What is your favorite food?

“I never turn down a pizza.”

What is your favorite snack?

“I prefer salty over sweet, like chips.”

What are you currently binge watching?

“Currently watching Ozark and really enjoyed Homeland. I also think Game of Thrones is the best show I’ve ever seen.”
